Philips AG 9016    (AG 9016/22)

This is a common amp from the German Philips section. I'd even say this is one of the most common European tube amps from the sixties.

You will always find one on ebay and you will always read that they sound very nice... Are you deaf ???

In original condition this amp has nothing to do with HiFi....

The best feature of this amp is the pot construction which work on one axle. We have two very small output transformers and strange input connectors.

In perfect original condition the amp delivers 1.5 watts into 4 or 8 Ohms (at least the small OPT works on both impedances) and has a frequency response with a loss of about 10dB !!!! at 20kHz.

To get a linear frequency response it is absolutely necessary to remove C13 and C43 (just cut one connector) which are wired on the output transformer. And then the treble pot must be turned fully clickwise as this pot only allows to reduce and not to increase treble gain.

That's all you can do. Nice sound now - but do not expect too much.
